Discrete Manufacturing (ERP)

The simplified definition of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is a set of applications that automate finance and human resources departments and help manufacturers handle jobs such as order processing and production scheduling. ERP began as a term used to describe a sophisticated and integrated software system used for manufacturing. In its simplest sense, ERP systems create interactive environments designed to help companies manage and analyze the business processes associated with manufacturing goods, such as inventory control, order taking, accounting, and much more. Although this basic definition still holds true for ERP systems, today its definition is expanding. Today’s leading ERP systems group all traditional company management functions (finance, sales, manufacturing, and human resources). Many systems include, with varying degrees of acceptance and skill, solutions that were formerly considered peripheral such as product data management (PDM), warehouse management, manufacturing execution system (MES), and reporting. During the last few years the functional perimeter of ERP systems began an expansion into its adjacent markets, such as supply chain management (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence/data warehousing, and e-business, the focus of this knowledge base is mainly on the traditional ERP realms of finance, materials planning, and human resources. The foundation of any ERP implementation must be a proper exercise of aligning customers'' IT technology with their business strategies, and subsequent software selection.

The Seven Types of Power Problems

Many of the mysteries of equipment failure, downtime, software, and data corruption are the result of a problematic power supply. Compounding the problem is that there is no standardized way to describe power problems. Learn more about common power disturbances, what can cause them, and how to safeguard your critical equipment—all described in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard terms.

Beware of Vendors Bearing Solutions

Hype has been a major factor in the recent downfall of some of the enterprise application industry's most illustrious players. This article presents some very simple things that you can do to prevent yourself and your company from being tomorrow's lead story in the industry trades.

definition of technologically competent  of Vendors Bearing Solutions Introduction Hype. Years ago we called it leaning into the wind. It was a philosophy—maybe even an art—that enabled software companies to be competitive, to build market share, and to sell sufficient product in a timely enough fashion to fund ongoing development. If you leaned too far into the wind, you fell on your face. If you didn't lean far enough, you would watch their backs as your competition took the market share upon which you built your dreams. Is IoT Changing the Face of Omnichannel Retail?

Omnichannel retail has forever changed the face of retail. And now, another recent innovation, the Internet of Things, is poised to change the face of retail—once again. TEC CRM analyst Raluca Druta keys in on how she envisions this relationship to unfold in the preamble to the full discussion on the topic later this month on ERP Conversation Live.

definition of technologically competent  IoT Changing the Face of Omnichannel Retail? Omnichannel retail has become a well-established practice, and it can be best described with an example: A consumer researches and browses products on their smartphone through a store’s mobile app and then later makes a purchase from their PC. The item is then shipped to the consumer’s home, who later on posts a review of the product and their buying experience on Facebook using their tablet. They subsequently decide to return the product in-store. This Read More

Forecasting Total Cost of Ownership for Initial Deployments of Server Blades

For organizations deploying many servers, total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses favor blade over rack-optimized systems. Blade server systems—reducing both capital and operating expenses—exploit economies of scale when deploying servers in volume. Saving power, cooling, and space by more than 25 percent, the blade advantage is particularly relevant for servers working in conjunction with storage area networks (SANs).
